Assistant Researcher & Science Performance Assessment Task Writer
Rachel Fisher is an Assistant Researcher/Science Performance Assessment Task Writer within WIDA. Before joining WIDA, she worked in marine, molecular and evolutionary biology research for several years, in addition to informal and formal science education. Her diverse experiences in science education have included teaching middle school, high school, and college biology, developing science curriculum for National Geographic, and leading professional development workshops for science teachers. Rachel was a researcher on projects focused on secondary science teachers’ instruction for English Learners (ELs).
She received a BS in Natural Resources from the University of Michigan, an MS in Biology from the University of Central Florida, secondary biology teaching certifications in Georgia and Virginia, and a PhD in Science Education from the University of Arizona. Her dissertation work examined how high school biology teachers negotiate pedagogical, conceptual, cultural, and political dilemmas during their evolution units.
