How Much Time Does This Take?
The first time through it took a great deal of time to plan the course and to prepare the course materials because we didn't know how to do any of this. After working out the overall plan and topics, we each took charge of one unit, chose the papers for it, and then prepared study guides, quizzes, and group worksheets. We then read and deliberated over each other's papers and materials and gave suggestions to the author, who revised them. We benefited greatly from each other's input and in the process learned a great deal about fields other than our own and about teaching and learning.
The second time through, it was much easier and much faster. We used some of the same papers and some new ones; all the quizzes and worksheets were new. We again gave drafts to each other and benefited greatly from the team's feedback.
