Submit a Teaching Story - A Checklist

Here's a checklist of some things to consider when submitting a story. You do not have to include all of these items in your story. If you have any questions, please contact Tony Jacob at atjacob@facstaff.wisc.edu or (608) 263-5647

General Description of the Activity

    What was the goal of the activity?
    Was this activity used to solve a specific problem/misconception?
    What did the students do?

Other Aspects of the Activity
    How was the activity incorporated into the lecture?
    Was the activity done throughout the semester?
    What were the size of the student groups?
    How were the groups chosen and by whom?
    When did the groups meet: in class, out of class, both?
    How did the group members communicate with each other and with you?

Activity/group evaluation
    How did you evaluate the activity/group/final product?
    Did students evaluate their group's final product? If so, how?
    Did students evaluate each other? If so, how? Was there a questionnaire?
    How was this activity incorporated into the course grade?

Success and Pitfalls
    Did the activity succeed in its original goals?
    Were unforeseen goals realized?
    Were there pitfalls with this activity?

Other Advice
    Additional advice for others doing this activity.
    Why did this activity work?

Please send when applicable, a hard copy or an electronic version of:
    Activity handouts.
    Your evaluation sheet.
    Evaluation forms completed by students.
