Joanne Stewart Picture

Dr. Joanne Stewart obtained her Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley, and is currently Associate Professor of Chemistry at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. She is very interested in promoting "hands-on" learning opportunities for chemistry students. She has worked with over twenty-five undergraduate research students at Hope and is active in encouraging the use of cooperative learning strategies in the chemistry classroom. Joanne has led workshops on cooperative learning for the pew Midstates Science and Mathematics Consortium and for the NSF Chautauqua program. During the past two years she has worked with two NSF-sponsored consortia, New Traditions at UW-Madison and ChemLinks at Beloit College, to promote the use of active learning strategies in the new chemistry curricula that are being developed.
