Goals Statement
The specific goals of the College Level One's Institute for Learning Technology are to produce a web site (Learning Through Technology, LT2) and other products that will:
- explore ways in which SMET faculty can actively shape the powerful opportunities presented by emerging technologies in order to prepare college students to meet the challenges of the 21st century
- provide college SMET instructors with better resources for answering questions related to why they should use learning technologies and how they should use them (including how to overcome frequently encountered obstacles); and
- enable college SMET instructors to provide all their students more experience with and a better appreciation for SMET as a living enterprise.

Our team will synthesize research findings related to the evaluation of technology-based student learning and simultaneously identify cutting-edge developments in technology-assisted instruction through contacts with colleagues in academia and industry. We plan to synthesize the resulting information into
- "Vignettes," short stories that describe briefly what types of technology are being employed across the nation in a variety of SMET disciplines and for what purpose these technologies are being used.
- Case studies, rich stories presenting all the interacting features of promising technology-assisted learning environments, based on evaluation data gathered from the key classroom practitioners.
- Conversations with colleagues around the country; what do they think about technology and learning, was it worth it?, was it overwhelming?, and more.
- Technology assessment tools, comprising a small number of tested evaluation instruments.
- A compendium of other resources useful for instructors considering ways technology can be implemented in the classroom.
