Brown Bag Lecture
Evaluation of the NISE as an Organization:
Formative
Evaluation as a Lens
Presented by Susan B. Millar
March 21, 2000 12:00-1:00 PM
Room 259, Educational Science Building
In this seminar, Susan Millar reflects on the role that the Formative Evaluation team of the National Institute for Science Education (NISE) played in the development of the NISE as an interdisciplinary organization. She proposes that her team chose heuristic models and sensitizing concepts that helped the NISE leaders make numerous pragmatic improvements in organizational practices and, more importantly, encouraged them to develop a questioning and problem-solving organizational style. She concludes that investment in formative evaluation is prudent when it helps leaders reflect on, and develop practical knowledge about, their organization.
