Brown Bag Lecture

Innovations, Successes, and Failures in a College Level-1 Chemistry Course. Glancing Back and Looking Forward.

Presented by Bassam Shakhashiri

October 21, 1997, 12:00 - 1:00pm
Room 259 Educational Sciences Building

Numerous approaches to enhancing the learning of chemistry have been found to be effective in large classes (350 students per semester) for almost a quarter century. The integration of these dynamic approaches (constantly refined and modified via feedback mechanisms from students and instructors) is a key element to their success in motivating students to develop and use good study skills. Other aspects of what works (and why), what does not work(and why) will be discussed. The main theme is a critical examination of the rewards, barriers, and consequences of this "reform" effort.
