Brown Bag Lecture

Reflections on the Theory and Practice of Systemic Reform

Presented by Uri Treisman

September 16, 1997, 12:00 - 1:00pm
Room 259 Educational Sciences Building

Phase II SSIs face very different conditions and manifest very different needs than did their earlier Phase I incarnations. Professor Treisman will pose new research questions relevant to the National Science Foundation's continuing role in school and educational system improvement. Among the areas to be addressed are the treatment of equity in state accountability systems and the forces that shape the allocation of local resources in local control states. In addition to the National Institute for Science Education community, the talk is designed for those interested in education policy, teacher professional development, and social change.

Uri Treisman, director, Office of Mathematics, and director, Charles A. Dana Center for Mathematics and Science Education, University of Texas-Austin, has professional interests in mathematics education and educational policy, with an emphasis on minority participation. Dr. Triesman, a MacArthur Fellow in 1992, serves on the Advisory Board of the National Science Foundation's Education and Human Resources Directorate and the Board of Directors of the American Association of Higher Education.
