 Elements of Children's Social Functioning
The most consistent predictor of children's social development through the early school years is the sensitivity of maternal behavior across the infant, todddler, and preschool years.

Children in higher quality child care programs perform better on measures of social, language, and cognitive development than children who attend poorer quality settings, but there is considrable variability across the US in state regulated child care.
