Most students in high school Studies of English and Writing classes do not receive high quality instruction in which interactive discourse raises expectations for students as thinkers and learners and encourages students to be come engaged in their studies.

How Reading Recovery Implementation Fails African American Students
The current implementation of Reading Recovery is unfair to African American children in Wisconsin. While African American children who complete the program do almost as well as their European American counterparts, too many African American children do not complete the program for a range of reasons, and so their needs are not met. But Reading Recovery implementation can be made more equitable.
