Academic Tech Tools: Organizing Your Work in the Electronic Age, with Jon Martin, Rebecca Holz, and Allan Barclay.
John Martin, from DoIT's Academic Technology department, will facilitate a discussion of the various electronic resources for organizing your research and ideas, keeping track of articles and other PDFs, and more. Come share what you know, and get new ideas in the process!
Please add topics you would like to see addressed to this website: http://tinyurl.com/5tq75ae
John Martin's heart is in expeditionary learning, and his doctoral research considered the use of mobile devices to connect people to the land and to each other at a deep woods camp in Maine. He now works for UW-Madison's Academic Technology, and develops tools (like ARIS) and processes (like Digital Storytelling) to support informal and formal learning environments and communities. He thinks people learn more by doing things than by studying them, and is excited that modern mobile devices have become Swiss Army Tools for learning and research. He blogs at times.
Rebecca Holz is a librarian at the UW-Madison Ebling Library for the Health Sciences. Her responsibilities include web development, technology tools & instruction, and scholarly communication & publishing support. Her interests include mobile devices, 'open' everything, bibliometrics and data-visualization. She likes to build, and introduce people to, tools that facilitate free and open access to data and information.
Allan R. Barclay is a senior academic librarian at the Ebling Library for the Health Sciences, University of Wisconsin-Madison. His responsibilities include web development, web and technology education, and technical consultation and development for collaborative projects. His interests include games and simulations for health care, graphic and interaction design, advocacy and education about open access tools, and research data curation.
