Single-Case Research: A Guide for Visual Analysis

Analyzing data visually from single-case designs can be challenging for researchers because there is often a lack of agreement among judges. Statistical analysis, by contrast, has perfect interrater reliability, but it can be complicated by sample size, choice of available tests, or other factors. A new WCER Working Paper advances the conservative dual-criterion (CDC) method as an approach that lies between statistical analysis and visual analysis, providing a tool for consistent visual analysis guided by statistical theory. This paper provides resources for implementing the CDC method for AB designs as proposed by Fisher, Kelley, and Lomas (2003), extending the method to the more complicated ABAB and multiple baseline designs.
