Teacher Compensation Knowledge Base

June 28, 2010

The Consortium for Policy Research in Education (CPRE) works toward placing talented and capable teachers in classrooms to accomplish the nation’s goals of teaching all students to high standards, and closing the achievement gap. To reform the teacher compensation system itself, teacher salary levels will have to be hiked in many places and salary structures need to be changed to pay teachers for the knowledge, skills and responsibilities to be successful, including bonuses for improved student performance. CPRE offers a series of papers on the topic. Subjects include compensation strategy and design issues; knowledge- and skill-based pay; school-based performance awards; and teacher standards and evaluation. More information is available here.
