FAST Program Rated Exemplary

December 4, 2006

The U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) has awarded WCER’s Families and Schools Together (FAST) Program its “exemplary” rating, placing it among those that demonstrate robust empirical findings, using a reputable conceptual framework and scientific evaluation design.

FAST is a multifamily group intervention designed to build protective factors for children and empower parents. Developed by Dr. Lynn McDonald in 1988 for at-risk youth and their families, FAST is now offered as an international model to children, ages 3 through 18.

FAST now appears in the top category on two widely used lists of best practices from federal agencies including the Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and OJJDP. The OJJDP works to prevent delinquency and strengthen the juvenile justice system and to protect children and enhance public safety.
