SAGE Program Leads to Improvements
SAGE Program Leads to Improvements

An evaluation of Wisconsin's Student Achievement Guarantee in Education (SAGE) program finds a positive and statistically significant effect of the SAGE program for students in reading, mathematics, and language arts through the end of grades 1, 2, and 3.

The SAGE Program aims to help improve student academic achievement by requiring participating schools to reduce the student-teacher ratio in classrooms to 15:1 in grades K-3; remain open extended hours; develop rigorous academic curricula; and implement plans for staff development and professional accountability.

The recent evaluation found no cumulative effect, however, when it considered student performance on the grade 4 Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Examination (WKCE).
