Collaborating with District Science TeachersMay 16, 2006 WCER's SCALE staff are collaborating with the Madison Metropolitan School District on building equity and excellence in freshman science. SCALE and district staff have held a series of seven daylong professional development sessions with a group of 20 teachers of freshman science, five from each of MMSD’s comprehensive high schools. Middle school science teachers work with the freshman science team to struggle through issues of differentiation in heterogeneous classrooms. The collaboration addressed the challenge of changing school-based practices, curricula, and pedagogy based on the ideas of equity and excellence in science classrooms. Click here to read more.
