Concept Map Aids Students' Online Research

May 29, 2007

Digital libraries such as the National Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education Digital Library (NSDL) can be an integral part of scientific inquiry in K-12 settings. In fact, the National Science Education Standards recommend that middle and high school students be able to access scientific information from resources and evaluate and interpret it as part of scientific inquiry. Based on the CoMPASS hypertext environment, the CoMPASS-DL project uses a concept map interface to show middle school students the conceptual links between documents. That makes the wealth of information in Digital Libraries easily accessible and enhances students’ navigation skills and learning. More about the CoMPASS project is available here.
