Diversity in Math Ed: Dissertation Abstracts

WCER’s Diversity in Mathematics Education Center for Learning and Teaching (DiME) project involves 3 universities and 3 school districts working to prepare mathematics education leaders to address issues of equity in the teaching and learning of mathematics. Abstracts of six dissertations prepared by graduate Fellows are posted here. Titles are: Balancing the equation: African American students’ opportunities to learn mathematics with understanding in two central city schools; Designing an approach to assess content-specific teacher knowledge; "How are we supposed to, like, learn it, if none of us know?"; Learning to teach mathematics for social justice; Learning to think relationally: Thinking relationally to learn; and Situating children’s mathematical thinking within their lived experience.
