Five Awards to Build Capacity

June 13, 2005

Five new awards will further increase WCER's capacity to respond to the new research mandate of the Institute of Education Sciences at the U.S. Department of Education. They include individual projects led by professor Brian Bottge (Rehabilitation Psychology and Special Education) on mathematics instruction for students with disabilities, professor Eric Camburn (Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis) on professional development for principals, researcher Anthony Milanowski on leadership evaluation, and researcher Robert Meyer on value-added achievement indicators. The fifth and largest IES award is the previously mentioned $5 million, 5-year grant to establish an interdisciplinary training program in the education sciences. Led by Adam Gamoran, the program is a collaborative effort of 20 faculty members from five social science departments and the schools of education and public affairs.
