Graduate Students Receive Interdisciplinary Training

March 27, 2006

The Interdisciplinary Training Program (ITP) in the Education Sciences at the UW-Madison addresses the need for solid evidence about what educational policies and programs will most benefit students, and the need for skilled researchers who can carry out that research. A select group of doctoral students in sociology, economics, psychology, political science, and social welfare are learning how to design, carry out, and analyze specialized research in education issues by drawing on the research interests of more than 25 campus scholars and by participating in specialized academic, professional, and financial supports and field research opportunities.

The program focuses on two separate but related themes: design and implementation of field-based randomized studies in schools and other complex, real-world settings; and the statistical analysis of quantitative survey, observational, and assessment data on education, with special attention to questions of causal inference  The project is supported by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) in the U.S. Department of Education.
