Improving Teaching in Higher Education

August 8 , 2005

The Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning promotes the development of a national faculty in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) committed to implementing and advancing effective teaching practices for diverse student audiences as part of their professional careers. CIRTL represents a collaboration of faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Michigan State University, and the Pennsylvania State University.

The CIRTL learning community provides a physical and intellectual home where graduates-through-faculty can develop their teaching practice; offers a welcoming environment for those beginning to explore change in their approach to teaching and learning; and furnishes mentoring and leadership opportunities. Learning community team members experience a supportive community of diverse colleagues as they develop a deeper appreciation for how they can engage in meaningful inquiry about their teaching and their students' learning.
