Integrating Qualitative and Quantitative Research

January 23, 2006

Rob Meyer, Elizabeth Graue, and Patricia Burch are identifying educational practices that raise student achievement in Wisconsin SAGE schools (Student Achievement Guarantee in Education). Their research is framed by an integrated qualitative and quantitative approach and includes five research strands: qualitative research on the educational programs, policies, and inputs associated with high student achievement in SAGE schools; quantitative research on the effects of alternative SAGE program structures; a longitudinal study that involves testing samples of SAGE and non-SAGE students from the fall of first grade through eighth grade; an annual survey of educational practices in SAGE and selected non-SAGE schools; and integrated qualitative and quantitative research to support the proposed longitudinal study and annual survey.
