Netherlands Collaboration To Improve Math Education

WCER researchers and colleagues at The Freudenthal Institute at Utrecht University in the Netherlands have collaborated on several mathematics education projects over the past 15 years. This ongoing relationship has resulted in the establishment of an international research institute for mathematics education: Freudenthal Institute-USA.

Based at UW-Madison, the Institute aims to establish a comprehensive network of collaborating researchers and developers. Institute director David Webb and colleagues are implementing Realistic Mathematics Education, a dynamic theory of learning and teaching mathematics.

The Freudenthal Institute http://www.fi.uu.nl/en/welcome.html aims to improve the teaching of arithmetic and mathematics at all levels, but particularly in kindergarten, primary, secondary, and vocational education.
