NSF Initiative Related To Improved Achievement
NSF Initiative Related To Improved Achievement

The National Science Foundation's Statewide Systemic Initiatives (SSI) program is related to an increased rate of student performance in some states, according to recent research by Norman Webb and Iris Weiss. The SSI program aims to improve student achievement in mathematics and science. The variation in improved student performance among SSI states appeared to be related to prior conditions in their education systems, accountability, and duration of funding. During the 1990s, 25 states and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico received NSF funding for up to five years.
