Philadelphia Mayor Promotes FAST Program

December 12, 2006

Philadelphia Mayor John F. Street wants to increase the number of 'Families in School Together' (FAST) parent-education programs in the city as part of a new anti-truancy initiative. His effort aims to ensure school-aged children and youth are in school, that their parents are aware of truancy laws and that the city, the school district and family court plan to hold them accountable. The FAST program, developed by Dr. Lynn McDonald, recently earned recognition as an exemplary program from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, US Department of Justice. For more information, visit the FAST Web site.
