Policies in Correctional and Psychiatric SettingsJuly 31, 2006 Kimber Malmgren and colleagues are studying curriculum, assessment, and accountability in correctional educational schools for committed youth and secondary day treatment and residential psychiatric schools. Their project, The Day, Residential, and Juvenile Correctional Schools Project (DRJC), is part of the College of Education & Human Development at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. Curriculum, assessment, and accountability are studied at the school, district, and state levels to identify current policies and practices, as well as alignment across levels. DRJC also investigates the use of research-based instructional strategies by special education reading teachers, English teachers, and special education math teachers in these alternative educational settings. The study is funded by the U.S. Department of Education. More information is available here.
