Progress and Pitfalls in Developing Effective EducatorsNovember 24, 2008 The school districts of Boston, Chicago, Fairfax County, Long Beach, and New York have made significant progress on recruiting and started the school year with virtually no vacancies, reports WCER’s project Strategic Management of Human Capital. Yet there is still work to be done on continuing to develop teachers to be effective educators. SMHC released a series of case studies Nov. 18 on these five districts, one state, and three organizations. The case studies assess progress on teacher and principal recruitment, selection, and placement; induction and mentoring; professional development; performance management (evaluation); and compensation. More information is available here.
