WCER Received Funding For The New $35 Million Dollar SCALE CenterThe Wisconsin Center for Education Research is home to a new 5-year, $35 million National Science Foundation-funded center, the Systemwide Change for All Learners and Educators (SCALE). SCALE is the third new NSF-funded project to locate at WCER this year, bringing a total of $56 million in education research funding to UW-Madison over the next five years. SCALE joins WCER's Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL), a 5-year project, $10 million project, and Diversity in Mathematics Education (DiME), a 5-year $11 million project. SCALE aims to reform math and science education, grades pre-K through 12, through a partnership with the University of Pittsburgh, the Los Angeles Unified School District, Denver Public Schools, Providence Public Schools, and the Madison Metropolitan School District. SCALE will bring together mathematicians, scientists, social scientists, and education practitioners to improve the math and science achievement of all students at all grade levels in the four school districts by engaging them in deep and authentic science and mathematics instructional experiences. Documentation of what works and information about how to construct such a partnership will be made available to a wide audience of policymakers and university and school leaders. SCALE will be directed by Terence Millar, UW-Madison Professor of Mathematics and Associate Dean of the Physical Sciences, Graduate School, through a partnership with the University of Pittsburgh, the Los Angeles Unified School District, Denver Public Schools, Providence Public Schools, and the Madison Metropolitan School District.
