Standards-Based Reform and the Poverty Gap

June 25, 2007

Although standards-based reform has had some positive effects in the area of teacher quality, the overall pace of improvement has been slow, owing in part to poor implementation. That’s according to the authors of “Standards-Based Reform and the Poverty Gap,” co-edited by WCER director Adam Gamoran. Scholars in sociology, economics, psychology, and education policy offer recommendations for the implementation and impending reauthorization of NCLB, including national testing and a rethinking of achievement targets. The book will be published by the Brookings Institution Press in October.
