Video Cases Support STEM TeachingDecember 8, 2008 Sharon Derry and colleagues are supporting the practice and development of science, mathematics, engineering, and technology (STEM) teachers using the Video Mosaic Collaboratory. VMC is an interactive digital environment supporting video-based teacher professional development and related research. It contains indexed video cases from the Robert B. Davis Institute for Learning’s video collection and accompanying data on students’ mathematical reasoning. The first phase of this project uses VMC to support a distributed, interdisciplinary team of mathematics teacher educators and learning scientists. They design and share adaptable teacher professional development interventions that utilize the Davis Institute’s video collection. The second phase of research will determine whether VMC interventions are more powerful than interventions based solely on mathematics problem-solving experiences.
