Emily Evans
  Senior Outreach Specialist

Emily Evans Fanaeian has worked with WIDA since 2006, leading and supporting a variety of projects ranging from the development of language proficiency assessments to the design and facilitation of professional development offerings both in Madison and in Washington, DC with WIDA's partner organization, the Center for Applied Linguistics. Prior to working for WIDA and CAL, she taught language learners in 4th and 5th grades, adult language learners, and graduate students of TESOL in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, DC.

Emily currently serves as the Assessment Literacy Specialist for WIDA, which affords her the opportunity to investigate needs of educators across the consortium pertaining to their conceptualization of language assessment and instruction. In addition, Emily serves as a link between the Assessment team and several working groups within WIDA and WIDA's partner organizations to support a number of diverse development efforts.

Emily holds a B.S. in Elementary Education and Spanish from Shippensburg University (PA), a M.A. in TESOL from American University in Washington, DC, and is a PhD student in Teacher Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her doctoral research investigates the preparation of content teachers to work with English language learners and their methods of teaching academic language.
