Kurt is the senior editor at WCER and works out of the director’s office. He provides editorial support to WCER researchers as they develop grant proposals for federal and nonfederal funding. In a collaborative and iterative process, Kurt edits proposals to ensure that they respond effectively to the call for proposals and comply with funding agency and university requirements. Kurt also edits the WCER Working Paper Series and quarterly newsletter, and provides other editorial services to researchers.

Kurt serves on the Education Research Institutional Review Board, which helps protect the rights and welfare of individuals participating in research. The board ensures that human research protocols comply with federal regulations, state laws, and local and University policies.

Kurt monitors federal appropriations and grant-making trends and drafts WCER contributions to UW’s Redbook of Federal Initiatives. Members of Congress and their staff regularly use the Redbook’s policy positions to guide their support for UW priorities.
