Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL)
The Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL) promotes development of a national faculty in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) committed to implementing and advancing effective teaching practices for diverse student audiences as part of their professional careers.
CIRTL is developing an interdisciplinary professional development program in teaching and learning that will prepare graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and current faculty to meet the future challenges of national STEM higher education. CIRTL is founded on the conceptualization of teaching as a research process (teaching-as-research) and the creation of learning communities favorable toward that transformation. CIRTL is committed to developing a national faculty whose teaching practices enhance the success of all STEM students (learning-through-diversity).
CIRTL is a partnership of UW-Madison with Michigan State University and the Pennsylvania State University. Robert Mathieu, Professor of Astronomy at UW-Madison is principal investigator. Co-principal investigators inclde Carol Colbeck at Penn State, Ann Austin and James Fairweather at Michigan State University and Aaron Brower and Judith Burstyn at the UW-Madison. |
