CAREER: Designing Hypertext Materials for Science Classrooms: Understanding Students' Changing Cognitive Representations

In prior work, Puntambekar has focused on the design of digital text that enables students to see the multiple relationships among science concepts and principles and has examined some of the issues that arise when such text is used in middle school science classes. This research seeks to understand the integration of digital text in the context of inquiry-based science, as enacted in multiple classrooms by different teachers. The focus is on implementing support to help weave together the hands-on activities and the reflective and interpretive activity of finding and applying information from digital text.
