Measures of the Enacted Curriculum

State education departments are moving toward using the Internet as a primary means of collecting and reporting data with schools and districts. With states having more efficient systems of data collection through the Internet, the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER) have been awarded a grant by the National Science Foundation to design and develop a web-based system for collecting data on professional development programs received by teachers through district, school, and higher education providers.

The “Surveys of Enacted Curriculum” data collection instruments being developed for the web-based system have been developed and field-tested over the past several years through projects led by CCSSO and WCER. Researchers from WCER will work with state specialists in math and science from several states to develop and field-test a set of “surveys of enacted curriculum” that have been demonstrated to produce reliable, comparable data on teaching practices, curriculum, teacher preparation, and professional development.
