Freudenthal Institute USA


The Freudenthal Institute at Utrecht University in the Netherlands conducts research into aspects of math education and how mathematic is taught. Its aims are to understand and improve the teaching of arithmetic and mathemtics at all levels, but particularly in kindergarten, primary, secondary, and vocational education.

WCER and the Freudenthal Institute have collaborated on several projects over the past 15 years. This ongoing relationship has resulted in the establishment of an international research institute for mathematics education: Freudenthal Institute-USA. Its mission is to establish a comprehensive network of collaborating researchers and developers.

The Institute focuses on implementing Realistic Mathematics Education, a dynamic theory of learning and teaching mathematics.
