Development of a Plan for a Study of Best Practices in After-School Programming

The purpose of this grant was to develop a plan for a longitudinal study of the effects of attending after-school programs on elementary and middle-school children. The programs are located nationwide and offer evidence of promising programming practices that are hypothesized to have positive effects on child and youth developmental outcomes. Working in conjunction with Policy Studies Associates, Inc., we developed a theory of change, designed the study’s methodology, selected measures of program quality and child and youth outcomes, and identified programs for recruitment into the longitudinal study.
