Improving Undergraduate Research Experiences in STEM through Mentor Training

The success of undergraduate research experiences depends largely on a positive relationship between the student and the research mentor. This initiative aims to improve undergraduate research experiences in STEM disciplines through research mentor training. It also aims to develop cultural competency in mentors and their mentees by infusing diversity issues into training. We are adapting an existing mentor training program developed for biology for use across STEM disciplines. We will test the effectiveness of the adaptations, disseminate the developed materials broadly, and build a mentor training seminar suited to individual needs.
