Great Lakes West Comprehensive Assistance Center

The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 set high expectations and created new incentives for success. While Illinois and Wisconsin have made important progress, much more remains to be done. To address the challenges in these two states, Learning Point Associates, based in Illinois, operates the Great Lakes West Regional Comprehensive Center (GLW), which supports state education agencies, districts, schools, and other stakeholders as they strive to close achievement gaps and help all children reach high academic standards. WCER is a subcontractor. As the 'field agent' of the U.S. Department of Education in Illinois and Wisconsin, the mission of GLW is, first, to provide technical assistance to the states as they implement NCLB; and second, in coordination with states and other service providers, to aid districts and schools needing assistance to place highly qualified teachers in all classrooms and to implement instruction based on scientific evidence.
