SCALE Supplement: Noyce Master Teacher Program in Mathematics and Science

This work aims to leverage the achievements of the System-wide Change for All Learners and Educators (SCALE) Mathematics and Science Partnership and Agile Mind™ to create the Noyce Master Teacher Program (MTP) in Mathematics and Science in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).

Agile Mind develops innovative, comprehensive Web-based instructional and assessment materials for mathematics and science teaching and learning.

The project builds on and enhances SCALE’s ground-breaking professional learning community model applied to master teachers, who inspire and assist other teachers, and SCALE/AM work in mathematics and science.

24 LAUSD teachers have been selected from a group of high-need, high priority schools for this program. They receive salary supplements while completing master’s degrees in science or mathematics education at California State University, Dominguez Hills.

As a condition of participation, teachers agree to: continue teaching in a high-need district (a year for each year that they receive stipends); implement and report on their experiences in using AM resources for planning, instruction, and assessment in their own classrooms; and support their school-site colleagues in the implementation of technology-enabled resources.
