Postdoctoral Training Program in mathematical Thinking, Learning, and Instruction

The U.S. needs more well-trained education researchers to address immediate and long-term questions about the effectiveness of educational programs and policies, and who can provide an empirical basis for future designs of curricula, assessments, instructional approaches, and learning environments. This need is particularly evident in mathematics education. With funding from the Institute of Education Sciences, Mitchell Nathan and colleagues are instituting an interdisciplinary, postdoctoral training program to increase postdoctoral capacity to conduct rigorous research in math education. The program will enable Fellows (a) to apply rigorous and systematic methods to obtain valid knowledge relevant to education activities and programs; and (b) to present findings and make claims that are supported by the methods employed.
