Assessing the Impact of Principals' Professional Development: An Evaluation of the National Institute for School Leadership

This study evaluates the National Institute for School Leadership (NISL), a leadership development program designed to improve student achievement by enhancing the knowledge and skills of principals to better lead their schools' instructional improvement efforts. This study assesses the effects of NISL participation on principals' knowledge and practice, particularly in areas that are thought to support instructional improvement. The study will also examine connections between principals' practices, improvements in teachers' practices, and gains in student achievement.
