Study of Innovative School Leadership Performance Evaluation Systems

This project evaluates the validity of principal evaluation systems and aims to improve their validity, making them better tools for improving principal leadership practice and for holding principals accountable for productive leadership behavior.
The project assesses the validity of a sample of school principal performance evaluation systems, identifies system characteristics associated with higher validity, and develops guidelines for improving the validity of evaluation systems.
Taking advantage of a large body of data collected as part of the U.S. Department of Education’s Teacher Incentive Fund (TIF) grant program, this project is a once-in-a-decade opportunity to add substantially to our knowledge about principal evaluation for a relatively small investment.
