Supporting the WI Educator Effectiveness Initiative

WCER staff are providing technical assistance to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction's Educator Effectiveness Design Team and its workgroup as it develops frameworks for teacher and principal evaluation.
Since being initiated by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Design Team has held initial meetings and developed definitions of guiding principles of a high quality educator effectiveness system. Building from these definitions, three areas of Design Team activities will be supported by the WCER technical assistance group:
1) development of model performance-based evaluation systems for teachers and principals;
2) development of a regulatory framework for implementation that includes how student achievement data will be used in context; and
3) recommendations for methods to support educator improvement and recognize performance.

The WCER group will support these activities by preparing briefing material that will frame key decision points for workgroup and design team meetings and attending the meetings to help with discussions and address questions of team participants. The WCER group will also provide advice and consultation on the final report of the Effectiveness Design Team, including review and feedback on the recommendations.
