Methodological and Data-Analysis Innovations for Single-Case Intervention Research

This work seeks to improve the methodological and data-analysis quality of empirical investigations in the rapidly growing area of single-case intervention designs (SCDs). The current Standards do not address several aspects of SCD application in the domains of research validity and data analysis, aspects that would greatly improve the scientific credibility of future intervention research. The proposed project has two strands, one methodological and the other statistical.

We will generate the following products: (1) A summary report of our work in accordance with IES guidelines; (2) A single-case research standards document, accompanied by a white paper for each of the project’s domains (internal validity standards, visual-analysis standards, and statistical data-analysis standards); (3) At least four scholarly articles reporting the research outcomes of our work, targeted for peer-reviewed journals specializing in single-case research; and Excel-based software, with macros written to accompany the randomization and permutation tests investigated in the project.
