WCER Working Papers Submission Guidelines

Submission policy

Papers are eligible for inclusion in the WCER Working Paper Series if (a) at least one author is affiliated with WCER or (b) the author has been invited to submit the paper, and (c) the paper is no more than 2 years old and is of publishable or otherwise enduring quality. In many cases, inclusion in the series may be a stepping-stone to publication in a professional journal or other refereed publication. However, the series also welcomes the submission of technical documents that may be too narrow for standard professional publication yet are of significant value to the field (e.g., instruments, surveys, questionnaires, handbooks, etc.). Papers authored by graduate students affiliated with WCER projects are eligible for consideration as long as they are project-related and have the approval of the project PIs.

Authors should make sure that the materials they submit are not copyrighted by another person or entity. Papers accepted for publication or previously published will be considered only with the publisher’s written permission obtained by the author. The fact that a paper will be or is already posted on the author’s WCER project website will not, however, be a barrier to inclusion in the Working Paper Series.

Submission of a paper to the Working Paper Series is construed as permission to post the paper on the series website.

Review and editing

Submissions to the Working Paper Series will receive a brief editorial review by the series editor. The WCER director will evaluate any recommendation for revision or rejection. Rejection, which is extremely rare, is usually on the grounds that the paper is not within the scope of WCER research.

Accepted papers will be proofread and lightly edited, if necessary, prior to posting on the series Web site. The series adheres to the style prescribed by the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. Working papers will be numbered in the order in which they are posted.

Copyright

Copyright for papers included in the Working Paper Series remains with the authors, who are free to publish their papers at any time. Upon publication, a paper will no longer be available for download on the Working Paper Series site unless the author obtains the publisher’s written permission. It is the responsibility of the author to inform the series editor of changes in the publication status of any paper included in the series.

ERIC

The Education Resources Information Center (ERIC; www.eric.ed.gov) is a digital library providing educators, researchers, and the general public with free access to education literature and resources. Under an agreement with ERIC and with the permission of the authors, WCER contributes papers in the Working Paper Series to the ERIC database. Copyright remains with the authors.
