December 6, 2016, 12:00 - 1:00

Educational Sciences Room 259, 1025 West Johnson Street

Terrenda C. White

Assistant Professor Educational Foundations, Policy & Practice, University of Colorado

Efforts to improve racial diversity in teaching have focused on traditional “pipeline” initiatives. Accountability-driven school turnaround efforts, charter school expansion, and the politics of school choice have received less attention for their role in the decline and displacement of teachers of color, and Black teachers in particular, in urban communities. Terrenda White will discuss evidence of these trends, and consider ways to examine and respond to the problem amid contemporary reform efforts.
