The Spencer Foundation has published a seven-chapter, 15-page guide to writing high-quality proposals for education research grants that involve youth, families, and community-based organizations.

The guide includes chapters about addressing power dynamics, utilizing a strengths-based perspective, articulating rapport, and deciding which Spencer programs are best suited for proposals involving youth and/or community-based collaborations. The guide is also meant to be "illustrative and descriptive, rather than prescriptive," the overview says.

"We offer some grounding ideas and suggestions, not a specific formula," it notes.
